This outing will be to Taunton, including the Museum of Somerset, on Wednesday 23 February. The museum is situated in the former Great Hall of the 12th Century castle, and has recently been greatly improved. It re-opened in 2011. It contains a wealth of exhibits including the Frome Hoard of over 50,000 Roman coins and a mosaic floor from Low Ham Roman Villa. It also includes Somerset Military Museum. At the moment there is a special exhibition of works by Brian Rice, the painter and printmaker who was born in Somerset and found fame in 1960s London for his striking abstract works. Taunton is our county town and has a bustling High Street with a riverside park. The cost of this visit will be £16 that includes a museum donation.
Please contact Janet Sherwin if you would like an application form.
