It was almost standing room only when Nick King from Goats of the Gorge, visited us and we heard how in 2014 whilst on duty as a police officer he was involved in a minor traffic accident in the centre of Bristol, resulting in a hospital admission where he was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. As well as calcium tablets a hospital consultant also advised drinking Goats milk as it contains high levels of calcium.
Nick soon then discovered the many other benefits goats milk offers, especially when applied in skincare products. Interested in a hobby, Nick began to look after his own goats and found that he had a lot of milk!
He then attended a soap school in the Cotswolds and learned the basics of cold process soap making. Nick then started developing his own recipes by substituting water for Goats milk and soon his family business, Goats of The Gorge, was born.
Taking early retirement from the police Nick began manufacturing a range of goats milk skincare products, selling at markets and then into retail outlets.
Nick brought a range of products for sale and many attendees went home with skincare goodies under their arm!
